7 Tips to Keep Your Body in Shape
Maintaining an ideal body weight is not as easy as it sounds. Temptations are everywhere. You may not resist the desire to eat tasty yet fatty food or you are just feeling lazy to exercise. Thus, it is necessary to have a strong commitment if you want to be in shape. Especially, if you are a culinary enthusiast.
Eventually, it is not only about a healthy body weight but also about your overall health. Here are some tips you can do.
1. Keep being active
Doing a regular physical activity will help maintain your weight in an ideal range by increasing calorie burning and lean muscle mass. Meanwhile, a sedentary lifestyle will harm your body’s metabolism and promote weight gain even if you don’t eat too much.
It is always better to do something than doing nothing. You can start with simple activities in your daily life, such as opting for stairs instead of lift, bicycling, reduce your sitting time, park your vehicle farther to walk more, and make walking your daily habit.
2. Get enough sleep
Lack of sleep or otherwise sleep excessively was linked to weight gain. To keep your body in shape, aim for 7-9 hours of sleep every night. It is also a key to an overall healthier life.
If you have sleep problems, it may be due to stress or nutritional deficiency. Sometimes, small changes like reducing caffeine consumption or turning off the computer or television an hour before bedtime may help your body to prepare for sleep. Sometimes, reading a book before bedtime may overcome your sleep problems.
3. Reduce the use of technology
People who have lots of screen time are prone to become overweight. Therefore, manage an appropriate time limit as you watch television, play video games, or use the computer or tablet that is unrelated to work.
4. Manage your stress
Stress is sometimes unavoidable, but you can manage it by doing a relaxation and deep breathing techniques. Stressed people tend to look for comfort food, which is mostly sweet and fatty. Thanks to the increased in cortisol, the stress hormone, which makes someone to overeat.
5. Do not skip a healthy breakfast
Breakfast is the beginning of the body’s metabolism. It promotes calorie burning and provides energy to do daily activities. People who skip breakfast will often feel the hunger, and thus compensate it by eating more at lunch. As a result, total calories consumed will be greater than if you eat breakfast.
6. Eat more fruits and vegetables
Researchers suggested that eating five servings of fruits and vegetables every day would avoid hunger as well as provide the body with necessary vitamins and minerals.
7. Portion control
Eating in large portion will cause excess in calories which are then stored as fat. Surely, your body weight will increase. You should also limit or even avoid sugar-sweetened beverages such as soft drink and juices, because it puts you at risk of obesity. In many cases, eating slowly and drinking more water may help you feel full faster.
By applying some tips above, you may keep your body in an ideal weight. Remember, intention will get you nowhere unless you have a long-term commitment. Good luck!
